IC-ENC provides comprehensive review of worldwide ENC availability - 9th December 2003
At the recent 2nd International ECDIS Conference and Exhibition in Singapore, IC-ENC presented a paper describing the challenges facing the international hydrographic community in the production and distribution of ENCs (click here to download a copy of our paper).

The urgent need for an international database of ENCs, all produced to a consistent standard and provided to the customer in a user friendly way was recognised as vital to the success of ENC and ECDIS. In order to achieve this goal, the need for improved international cooperation and coordination was emphasised. Regional coordinating centres like IC-ENC and Primar-Stavanger will therefore play an important role in this regard.

It was clear during the conference that the current fragmented distribution of ENC data around the world is causing considerable confusion about the current status of ENC production, and where one can buy ENC data. In response to this, we have improved the coverage pages of this site (click here to view).

Our improved coverage pages now provide information – on a country by country basis- of the status of ENC production. Our graphical catalogue has also been upgraded to show this new information, and therefore provide perhaps the most comprehensive and up to date summary of worldwide ENC availability.
