Dates and timeframe: The secondment will take place across 4 consecutive days in March 2026, with dates remaining flexible to suit the applicants schedule.
Purpose of secondment: To enhance operational readiness, working on customising conversion mappings to ensure seamless integration and data integrity. Gain hands-on experience with the production workflows for S-104 (Water Level Information) and S-111 (Surface Currents).
Desired outcomes / benefits: Opportunity for NLHO, other Members and IC-ENC to improve practices, build technical proficiency and support strategic goals of digital transformation.
Structure:
S-101 preparation:
The secondee will work with members of the NL internal S-100 team on preparing (source) data to be able to produce both S-57 and S-101 ENCs. Or S-101 from S-57 ENCs.
Experiment with our S-101 tooling, possibly using your own data. Convert from S-57 to S-101.
Review Conversion and build knowledge and experience with customization of mapping (S-57 to S-101 Conversion).
S-104 and S-111:
Secondee will be introduced to the production of S-104 and S-111 by NL tidal expert and senior software engineer.
Experiment with NL S-100 tooling, possibly using your own data.
Discuss strengths and weaknesses.
Share findings and/or recommendations with the wider IC-ENC community.
Secondee requirements:
Experience with IC-ENC.
Experience with CARIS HPD / CARIS S-57 Composer.
Good communication skills in Dutch or English.
Qualifications for nautical cartography.
Optional: Bring your HO’s S-57 ENCs or S-57 Data(.HOB) as well as water level en currents data.
Pre-work: Online initial conversation is appreciated and could be part of the approval process.
Follow up work: NLHO will be available for consultations following the secondment. The secondee is to provide a journal/article to IC-ENC sharing their experience. Secondee to share their learnings at IC-ENC Technical Conference or Steering Committee (if appropriate). Any relevant information to be shared with Members via the IC-ENC LMS.
