  • Burak İnan - IC-ENC Chair

    Burak İnan was elected as Chair of IC-ENC in July 2023 and is currently the Deputy Director of the TN-ONHO.

    He graduated from the Turkish Naval Academy in 1997. He had his Nautical Cartography and then Electronic Charting training at the International Maritime Academy (IMA) Trieste/Italy.

    He respectively served as the Head of Paper Charting, Head of Electronic Charting and Head of Charting at the Turkish Navy-Office of Navigation, Hydrography and Oceanography (TN-ONHO).

    During this period, he carried out the duties as Mediterranean and Black Sea Hydrographic Commission Capacity Building (MBSHC CB) Coordinator, Black and Azov Seas Working Group (BASWG) Secretary.

    He served as the Commanding Officer (CO) of Hydrographic Survey Vessel A-599 and subsequently as the Defence Attached to Jakarta, Indonesia.

    Tell us an interesting fact about yourself - I enjoy indulging in lengthy chats with my wife while sipping fantastic coffee in a cozy spot. Listening to the same songs I have been listening to for the last 30 years and trying to figure out this golf thing – I'm a beginner and it's pretty funny!

  • Leendert Dorst - IC-ENC Vice Chair

    Leendert Dorst was elected as IC-ENC Vice Chair in July 2023 and is the Deputy Hydrographer and Head of the Staff Group at the Royal Netherlands Navy. His work includes the coordination of IHO, EU and national government matters, with a focus on distribution aspects for nautical products and their source datasets. Leendert is active in the North Sea and Meso-American & Caribbean Regional Hydrographic Commissions, the IHO/EU Network Working Group, and as an editor of the International Hydrographic Review. His skills include quality management, conflict resolution, and PR.

    Leendert earned his MSc degree in Geodetic Engineering from Delft University of Technology, and his PhD in Water Engineering & Management from the University of Twente. His work expertise includes maritime boundary delimitation processes, horizontal and vertical references at sea, methods for accurate water level forecasting, and dynamics of the sea floor using statistical methods on bathymetric data.

    Tell us an interesting fact about yourself - I enjoy taking the kids swimming in the weekend and also don’t mind listening to live music with a drink and good company.

  • Pia Dahl Højgaard - IC-ENC Vice Chair

    Pia Dahl Højgaard was appointed as IC-ENC Vice Chair in July 2022, and has held the position of Director General for the Danish Geodata Agency since January 2016 and is also responsible for the Danish Cadastre and the Hydrographic Office.

    She holds an MSc in geodesy, cadastral science and planning from University of Aalborg, Denmark, 1987.

    She has worked as a precision surveyor on bridge and tunnel projects in Denmark and as a cadastre and land registration consultant in developing countries. From 2006-2015 she was manager of the Cadastre Authority within the Danish Geodata Agency.

    She has represented the Danish Cadastre in the Permanent Committee on Cadastre and the EuroGeographics CLRKEN. She was a member of the UNECE WPLA Bureau from 2009 to 2017.

    As of January 2016, she has held the position as Danish National Hydrographer and as such represents Denmark in the International Hydrography Organization (IHO) and related Regional Hydrographic Commissions. Of the latter she has chaired the ARHC, BSHC and NHC on a rotational basis. Furthermore, she chaired the IHO third Assembly in May 2023. She is also presently Chair of the IHO Council 2023-2026.

    Tell us an interesting fact about yourself - I have taken up rowing in inrigger boats, which I do as part of a rowing club during the summer season – only for fun and exercise. During winter some of my friends have persuaded me to dip myself in the fjord once a week – mostly persuaded by the sauna and good company.

  • Michael Andrew - IC-ENC Vice Chair

    Michael Andrew was elected as IC-ENC Vice Chair in July 2022 and is currently Assistant Director at the Australian Hydrographic Office. His responsibilities include Licensing and Dissemination of AHO products (including paper charts and ENC to civil and Australian Defence users), relationships with Distributors and Licensees, the operation of the AHO national ENC service and the Licensing of charts for use in derivative products.

    Michael has served in this or similar roles for approximately 19 years, during which time he managed the transition from lithographic printing to POD, the implementation of AHO ENC services and led the implementation of new printing, distribution, customer management and financial systems.

    Prior to joining the AHO he worked for a decade as an investigator in a branch of the Attorney Generals Department.

    He has worked closely with IC-ENC since the AHO first joined IC-ENC in 2005 and has contributed as part of the IC-ENC VAR Assessment Panel (including assessing the early PAYS applicants), the former Commercial Working Group and the Distribution Working Group. He is also Vice Chair of the IHO S100 Security Scheme Project Team, a Member of the IHO WENDWG, IHO S100WG and the IHO ECS Project Team. Qualifications include B.A. (Phil, Science), Project and Risk Management.

  • James Harper - General Manager

    Part of the team since - 2005 as a Data Validator

    What does your role entail? - Accountable for the successful delivery of services to IC-ENC Members, financial and operational governance, and making sure IC-ENC is attractive to new Members.

  • Aaran Champion - Data Manager

    Part of the team since - April 2012

    What does your role entail? - As IC-ENC Data Manager I am the primary Point of Contact for IC-ENC Members for S-57 Maritime Data Products. I co-ordinate the validation and distribution of MDPs across the IC-ENC International Validation Team.

  • Matthew Smith Betker - Project Delivery Officer

    Part of the team since - October 2023

    What does your role entail? - My role involves utilising project management principles to drive continual improvement with a focus on technical enhancements for S-10x marine navigation services. The position also requires expertise in relational databases, workflow tools, and a comprehensive understanding of IHO S-57 and S-100 navigation products.

    Tell us an interesting fact about yourself - I once trained as a forensic scientist and I also really like coffee cake.

  • Adele Brewster - Data Validator

    Part of the team since - May 2017

    What does your role entail? - I undertake validation of Maritime Data Products, principally Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC) base cells and updates, using a variety of software tools in accordance with defined IC-ENC procedures. I also manage ENC Files and conduct ECDIS loading checks. Another part of my role is delivering IC-ENC service improvement work items and creating ENC data Exchange Sets for issuing to IC-ENC’s VARs.

    Tell us an interesting fact about yourself - In March 2023 I took part in 100km Dog Walking challenge to help raise money and awareness for Dementia UK. I also took part in the 'Brave the Shave' challenge in September 2017 which meant having my head shaved to raise money and support for Macmillan Cancer Support.

  • Su Marks - S-100 Manager

    Part of the team since - March 2020

    What does your role entail? - Development of S-10x services for IC-ENC Members and representing IC-ENC at international technical working groups to develop S-10x standards.

    Tell us an interesting fact about yourself - I was the lead in the production of the first edition of NP5012 Admiralty Guide to ENC Symbols used in ECDIS.

  • Tom McIlwaine - Assistant Distribution Manager

    Part of the team since - January 2021

    What does your role entail? - My primary role is to manage the IC-ENC Electronic Chart Data (ECD) Service which seeks to address data requirements for the non-SOLAS navigation market. This includes business development and account management for our commercial Distribution Partners as well as for the participating IC-ENC members. In addition, I also functionally deliver the IC-ENC Revenue Management Service for all IC-ENC members ensuring ENC sales by our VARs and DPs are correctly reported and revenue returned to the members.

    Tell us an interesting fact about yourself - I represented my country at an international contract bridge tournament whilst at school.

  • Ewan Horner - Geospatial Intern

    Part of the team since - July 2023

    What does your role entail - I help receive and validate incoming ENC's from our members, identify overlaps between neighboring ENCs using GIS packages and validate updates of our members' ENCs using associated S-57 and S-58 standards.

    Tell us an interesting fact about yourself - I've been into Buckingham Palace for a garden party to celebrate completing the Gold Duke of Edinburgh's award.

  • Laura Tyzack - S-100 Support Officer

    Part of the team since - August 2021

    What does your role entail? - My role is mainly focused around the development of our S-100 Services and Conversion Readiness Service, but I am also involved in delivering our Technical Conferences, coordinating our Product Development and Testing (PDT) scheme, contributing to the development of S-100 related training, and providing day-to-day support and guidance to Members on S-100 matters. It's a really varied role which I enjoy, and no two days are ever the same!

    Tell us an interesting fact about yourself - I love cats - I currently have two of my own, but if I had enough space there would probably be another 20 running around my house!

  • Alex Wallage - Data Validator

    Part of the team since - August 2023

    What does your role entail? - I validate incoming member data against S-58 checks and assess them for safety critical errors and improvements. I also provide a consistency check against surrounding coverage. I also perform non-validation tasks like software testing and international training.

    Tell us an interesting fact about yourself - I am a keen artist and spend a lot of my weekends painting.

  • Greg Smith - Project Delivery Officer

    Part of the team since - April 2021

    What does your role entail - As Project Delivery Officer I focus on many different aspects of IC-ENC relating to technology, whether its delivering new services or efficiencies or identifying change and continuous improvement items. I work heavily with the S-100 Manager and S-100 Support Officer to facilitate technology requirements for new S-100 services and with the Data Manager and Validators to find improvements or new efficient ways of validating S-57 data.

    Tell us an interesting fact about yourself - I have been currently walking sections of the UK South West Coast Path and have completed roughly two thirds with the Cornish coastline left to go.

  • Bhavya Airen - Data Validator

    Part of the team since - April 2023

    What does your role entail? - My responsibilities include:

    Performing Data registration checks and loading Maritime Data Products onto industry standard products, such as ECDIS

    Undertaking the validation of Maritime Data Products, principally Electronic Navigational Charts, providing feedback reports to IC-ENCs members

    Creating IC-ENCs Exchange Sets for issuing to IC-ENCs Value Added Resellers and Distribution Partners

    Providing production support and guidance to IC-ENC members.

    Interesting fact about yourself - I am vegetarian but I love sausages, I am lazy but I love yoga, I have good sense of humor but I tell bad jokes, I love adventure but I am afraid of heights and I love spending but I have no money!!!

  • Ruth White - Production Support Officer

    Part of the team since - April 2021

    What does your role entail? - Ruth leads on Production Support, one of the core functions to IC-ENC. This involves liaising with Members on their training and capacity needs and implementing courses, conferences and a full and enriched Learning Management System (LMS) to meet them.

  • Karen Chase - Data Validator

    Part of the team since - January 2021

    What does your role entail? - I am responsible for the validation of Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC) data produced by Hydrographic Offices (HOs), and for the inclusion of such data into the IC-ENC service. This involves ensuring that data is thoroughly validated, and quality controlled in a timely manner; that data is available for supply to IC-ENC’s VARs and contributing to other IC-ENC service improvement projects.

  • Jake Sharland - Distribution Manager

    Part of the team since - May 2022

    What does your role entail? - Ensuring our members data is available to end users, through a variety of different products and services. Promoting a platform for Value Added Resellers to have permissions to innovate and develop their services, whilst also giving our members increased oversight of how their data is currently and potentially used.

    Tell us an interesting fact about yourself - I am a keen apiarist.

  • Dan Garratt - Senior Data Validator

    Part of the team since - July 2005

    What does your role entail? - Providing assurance of IC-ENC Validation Team's products (Validation reports, Exchange Sets). Manage training to IC-ENC Validator on IC-ENC Validation processes and IHO S57/S58 Standards. Deputising Data Manager.

  • Helen Upham - Distribution Assurance Manager

    Part of the team since - June 2023

    What does your role entail? - Providing assurance to our membership of 50 worldwide hydrographic offices with regards to protection of their revenues and the safe supply of their data through the distribution network.

  • Alex Boobyer - IC-ENC Assistant

    Part of the team since - May 2023

    What does your role entail? - My role is incredibly varied as I offer assistance to the entire IC-ENC team. This can be anything from arranging travel, drafting circular letters, loading content to our LMS or minute taking at conferences and even taking our new team photos!

    Tell us an interesting fact about yourself - I am determined to see as many countries as possible! I usually have at least one or two upcoming flights booked.

  • Bruna Pinheiro - Sergeant & Data Validator

    Part of the team since - September 2015

    What does your role entail? - Sergeant at Brazilian Navy. First validation training course on IC-ENC was in Panama 2015 and didn't stop after that. 8 years validating ENCs due to the partnership between Brazilian Navy and IC-ENC. I am really glad for being part of this process and for the opportunity to meet incredible people from many different countries.

    I am also Technician in Secretariat, Graduated (Bachelor) in Administration and Business with postgraduation on Public Administration. I also speak Portuguese, English and Spanish.
